Ph.D. Student

Successful Ph.D. candidate should have following:

  • Passionate and self-motivated about research in computational materials science and AI4Science
  • Excellent academic track record in materials science or related fields as shown in transcript and CV
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in English, both written and oral
  • Programming skills in python or C++

Following are optional but highly desired:

  • Deep knowledge in statistical mechanics, solid state physics, energy materials, data science, and machine learning & AI as shown in transcript and CV.
  • Proficient in programming, computer hardware, and Linux environment as shown by code repository.
  • Experience in software development and participation in open-sourced projects as shown by GitHub profile.
  • Track record of research or deep knowledge in computational materials science or renewable energy as shown by publication.
  • Any other experience that align with our current research interests, such as energy materials & solid-state batteries.

NUS Research Scholarship

Most Ph.D. students are admitted through NUS Research Scholarship and it subjects to the current openings and funding situation in our research group.

They are highly competitive, and past successful applicants usually have Ph.D. offer(s) (with full scholarship) from top universities in the U.S.A. and Europe. Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Successful candidate usually have following:

  • Ph.D. degree in materials science, physics, chemistry, computer science, or related fields.
  • Excellent publication track record
  • Knowledge of programming, computer hardware, and Linux environment.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in English, both written and oral.

The candidate is expected to be very good at one or more of the following areas:

  • Atomistic simulations: such as first-principles calculations, molecular dynamics, high-throughput simulation, and Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Multi-scale modeling: such as phase field modeling, finite element modeling, and coarse-grained modeling.
  • Materials informatics, machine learning and AI: such as deep learning, reinforcement learning, and generative models.
  • Methdology development: such as developing new algorithms, software, and tools for computational materials science.

Following are optional but highly desired:

  • Experience align with our current research interests, such as energy materials & solid-state batteries.
  • Experience in mentoring students and leading research projects.
  • Experience in open-sourced projects, and software development.

Exachange Student

We welcome exchange students from other universities to join our group. Please contact Dr. Deng with your CV, transcript, and your proposed research. The requirements are similar to the Ph.D. student position, but the exchange student is expected to work on a specific project for a short period of time (usually more than 1 year).
